Professor Squadron spent ten years at Morrison & Foerster, where he was a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department.  His practice specialized on antitrust, contract and regulatory disputes in the telecommunications, energy and high-tech fields, and he represented clients in numerous dispute resolution forums.   Professor Squadron also taught Administrative Law on the adjunct faculty at the Georgetown University Law Center.

In 1997, Professor Squadron became the co-founder and CEO of Sportvision, a start-up company dedicated to technology for sports media.  Sportvision pioneered numerous groundbreaking inventions, including the Emmy-winning yellow first down line, K Zone and NASCAR RaceF/X technologies, and in 2001, Professor Squadron was named Ernst & Young’s New York City Entrepreneur of the Year in the media category. After raising $37 million in venture capital for Sportvision, and leading the company’s product and intellectual property portfolio growth across baseball, football, basketball, hockey, motorsports and college athletics, he spearheaded Sportvision’s merger with Ignite Sports Media.

Professor Squadron subsequently joined Bloomberg LP in 2009 as President of the newly-created Bloomberg Sports, a start-up business in sports analytics using the underlying Bloomberg financial technology.  Bloomberg Sports introduced numerous advanced analytics products for baseball, football, thoroughbred racing and soccer, including the pioneering Pitch Review tablet system for Major League Baseball.  Bloomberg Sports was named by SportsPro Magazine as one of the “Top 50 Companies Shaping Sports” globally, and by Fast Company Magazine in 2011 as one of the “Most Innovative Companies in Sports,” and Professor Squadron was named Executive of the Year by the NYU Sport Business Society. Professor Squadron led the spin-out and sale of the business in 2014 to Vista Equity Partners.  After that transaction, Professor Squadron served as Special Counsel to Genius Sports before joining the Elon faculty.

In addition to his career as a litigator and corporate executive, Professor Squadron has extensive government experience. He was a press secretary to a New York Congressman on Capitol Hill, served on President Jimmy Carter’s Domestic Policy Staff, and was New York City Commissioner of Telecommunications under Mayor David Dinkins.  In the latter role, Professor Squadron oversaw New York’s cable franchises and resolved numerous disputes regarding the development and operation of the city’s cable systems. He also represented the country’s municipalities on cable issues as President of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA).

Professor Squadron serves on the boards of the Coro New York Leadership Center and the OurEnergyPolicy Foundation, and he co-chairs the Nominating Committee of the thoroughbred racing industry’s Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority.  He is a graduate of Swarthmore College, his law degree is from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall), and he is a member of the California Bar.
